Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a relatively new development in the construction industry that enables architects to provide a process based on an intelligent 3D model that gives architects, engineers, and construction professionals the knowledge and tools they need to more effectively plan, design, build, and manage complex structures and buildings.
The 3D model created during the design phase has utility that extends beyond the building process if contemporary MEP design software is employed. The model can be kept as a resource for upkeep tasks and updated concurrently with the building during a significant refurbishment. A building with an MEP engineering model is typically simpler to run and maintain than a building with simply conventional construction blueprints.
